Auto Adventures!

On Monday, my dad told me that a family friend of ours had bought a new truck, and was looking to literally give away the 1984 GMC Sierra pickup he had. I was very interested in how right the price was, and so I arranged to go look at it. An understanding was come to, and I was told that I could have it that Sunday. Up to this time, I had been driving the suburban which has 253,800 miles on it, leaks every auto fluid you can name, and leaks it badly! Plus, the ability to accelerate much at all was well nigh void. 0-60mph takes almost 60 seconds... if you can imagine that.
When I got home from work on Tuesday, our friend came by to say that he could have it ready for me the following evening. As could be expected, I was rather excited! I had plans with a friend Tuesday evening, and at 10:30ish we decided to go to the beach. When I tried to start the suburban, it wouldn't start, made a few clicks and humming noises, and spewed a big white cloud of electrical smoke out from under the hood!!!!
Talk about perfect timing! I totally give God the credit for providing me with a vehicle. And the cool thing is that the truck has a nearly identical interior to the suburban!. And it has working speakers! And the accelerator doesn't stick! And it only has 113,000 miles on it! Yay God!!!

Camping With David and a Bizarre Injury...

This weekend, my friend David and I went out and camped out on Bay Ocean Spit. I had wanted to do it for at least a year, and I am so amped that we finally did! We parked in the parking lot and biked another 15 minutes or so until we found a good camping spot. We set up and decided to go for an explore. It rained on us a little bit, but fortunately the majority of the precipitation hit the mainland. I flicked/shook my wrist to shake some water off of my sleeve, and I ended up screwing up something in my wrist. Basically, it's really swollen and painful, and it's the most bizarre thing ever. Well, we camped out for the rest of the night, and had a good time! As a result, I have a greatly increased interest in biking and backpacking trips, and I am also missing a week or so of work.

Relient K Concert!

Ok! On April 18th my friend Kelsey Hampton and I went to a Relient K concert at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, and it was AWESOME!!!!! Sherwood and Mae were also there, and I hadn't heard of them before. I like them both quite a bit. Relient K was definitely the group of the night though! They are a blast to see in concert, and I highly recommend that you go see them if such an opportunity presents itself!

Frustrated by big life changes...

I've kinda been hurtin' lately... I am realizing that things are going to change this year, and that they will never ever be the way they are now ever again. It starts in about 4 weeks really, with my friend Tony leaving on June 14th to work at a camp in Pennsylvania for the summer. He and I have lived here, and sung, played frisbee, basketball, video games, gone surfing, skimboarding, boogieboarding, had dinner parties, and tons of other things together for the last 3 or so years. Now he is leaving, and as soon as he gets back, I'm leaving for school in Wisconsin for 2 years, and he will be going to U of O for 4 years. We will actually see eachother maybe twice in the first 2 years, and depending on where the Lord leads me after that, who knows if we will ever see eachother again period. I know that may sound a little pessimistic, but this is what going through my mind. It's just surreal, and every time we are playing basketball, or frisbee, or when we're just out in the surf, I just think it's going to last forever.
Tony and I are different in a lot of ways, and we don't always see eye to eye, but I guess I didn't realize how much I value the friendship we have, and I just can't stand the thought of losing that time we have together now.

I think maybe I'm only having these thoughts about my friendship with Tony because he and I are so different. We are different enough that I guess there might be a greater chance of our lives being very different after 4 years.

I will always have amazing memories though! :-)
